FAQ

What do we need to bring?
FISHING license (required for anglers 16+ years), rod/reel, tackle, cash for fish cleaning services and/or gratuity for your crew. Parking is always FREE! Snacks, Drinks, and other foods and beverages are encouraged to bring as well. Alcohol is allowed but NO GLASS policy is STRICT on ALL boats in the fleet. A small bag to keep personal items safe is recommended as well.
What if we don't have a rod, any tackle or a fishing license?
We have custom tackle kits designed with our own Captains that are available for purchase as well as quality fishing rods/reels for rental. Rental rods are $10, unless included in trip. Please call the landing for pricing and availability on tackle kits as they vary trip to trip. "Pre-order" any of these items as well as a fishing license, and we will have it on board in the morning under your reservation!
How much should I tip?
It's usually customary to tip your deckhand(s). Obviously not required by definition - but much like a waiter in a restaurant - deckhands work very hard for a very modest wage. 10-20% is a standard tip in a restaurant where your server waits on you for perhaps 5 minutes. Your deckhand will be there to help and assist you the entire trip. If you think he/she did a good job…please tip them well as they will definitely appreciate it!! If something is not right, please have a conversation with your Captain during your trip. All our boats have exceptional deckhands on board to assist season Veterans to Beginners!
Is there a galley available onboard?
NO, please bring lunch/beverages and snacks. Cans only, no Glass. (Shore side snacks available at the landing). The Oakland Anglers 2 is the ONLY boat with a cook on board for breakfast and lunch (on MOST trips* and it's additional $ on board)
What should I wear?
Dress in layers, jeans/windbreakers, hats/beanies, gloves, rubber boots or extra socks if wearing sneakers. We definitely recommend water proof boots or shoes. Weather can vary during the trip, so be prepared!!
What if I get sea-sick?
We recommend Bonine for sea-sickness. Take 1 tablet the night before your trip and another tablet morning of your trip on an empty stomach. You can also decrease the risk of getting sea-sick by sitting outside the cabin and drinking lots of water. Always better to be safe than sorry if not sure.
What happens if we don't catch any fish? Can you guarantee we will catch fish?
We almost always return with fish but we can't guarantee a catch on every trip. Our boats will do their very best to bring you home with something! Remember it is called fishing and not catching!!
Will the crew help/teach us if we are beginners?
Yes, the crew is very attentive on all our charters and will guide beginners and pros through each hook up. Please let them know if you need any help/assistance during your trip.
Where can I find fishing scores?
You can view our fishing scores from today by clicking on the "Fish Counts" tab on our website. For our recent counts, please click on "Fish Reports". You can also follow us on Facebook for daily updates as well as Instagram!
Can we Charter your boats for events other than fishing?
Yes! All of our boats are available for evening cruises, fleet week viewing, fireworks, eco-tours, research trips, ash scatterings, whale watching, bay tours/cruises, McCovey Cove viewings and more! Give the landing a call if you have any questions!
Can I bring a cooler onboard?
Yes, coolers UP TO 45qt. are welcome aboard.
How much do extras such as Tackle, Rod Rental and Fishing License cost?
We provide Tackle Kits specially designed for the fish being targeted on your trip: Potluck and Rockfish/Lingcod tackle kits $12-22.00 Tackle Kits for Crab Combo $19.00 Rod Rentals $10.00 2026 1 Day Fishing License $21.09
What time should I arrive for my trip?
We recommend getting to the parking lot/dock no later than 30 minuets before your trip departs. We want to make sure everyone gets the most amount of fishing time and this starts with the boats leaving SHARPLY on time. All boats will depart ON TIME, as any airline/cruise/etc. would do.
Where are we located?
Well if the name wasn't a giveaway, we are located on the Emeryville peninsula. Our official address is at the top right of every page, or you can type in "Fish Emeryville' in any GPS/maps.
